John built himself a cache! In case of robot attack, natch. It is mostly empty right now, except for some canned goods and two changes of warm clothes. He'll be working on filling it with weapons, MREs, and survival goods for as long as he's bound in Milliways; I expect it will take him awhile and some hard work, especially because he's already freaked about the debt he's built working on it.
So you know: While the cache is quite well hidden, it is not perfectly hidden. Someone who knows what they're looking for, happens to be in a fairly deserted part of the forest off the trail, and/or has a very good ear for what walking on what basically amounts to hollow ground could find it.
That being said, it is quite well hidden and far off the path, so I highly doubt more than two or three people in Milliways will find it at all. If you think your pup would notice it, leave a message here and we'll talk about it. I'd prefer it that, in general, it's assumed that the cache is unknown: even if your character is very observant, the forest is huge and it's totally possible they just haven't run across that portion of it recently.
Ta!

I just really want this to keep to a very very low level of people who know (especially because if John knows that anyone knows, he will freak and build a new one further out and I am not sure I want him to go through that stress fifty times!).

Also just a heads up, I forget where you said John was ep wise but I threw Sarah into the bar from the ep 'Dungeons and Dragons' if you want to throw anyone at her.
And Sarah, she's not fully explored the place yet but if she did explore the woods anything done by her son you know she'd find. And probably be confused since she doesn't know he's there.

1) Trowa is very observant, and grew up a soldier spending at least some of the time in a war zone that forested terrain. He also believes very much in discreet reconnaissance of, well, anywhere and everywhere. I doubt he'll be doing much wandering outside till the weather warms up -- he's not a huge fan of cold, and he knows the general shape of the terrain well enough from previous years that he wouldn't be in a hurry to explore anyway -- but once spring hits, odds are good that he'd take a wander or three into the woods.
If he came by the cache, I expect he'd notice it. It's the kind of thing he's learned the signs of really really well. That said, I'm entirely fine with keeping him coincidentally away from that area if you'd rather! He wouldn't tell anyone if he did find it, though, because Trowa is allergic to telling anybody anything unless it's tactically advantageous to do so.
2) River likes to wander anywhere her mood takes her. This does include rambles into the woods, and also trail rides there. River is very observant, and also psychic and living on a smuggling ship. (She's a city girl and a spaceship girl -- she likes nature, but she's never really learned wilderness tracking -- but she does notice her surroundings, and she doesn't tend to fall into the "people see the world as they expect to" trap.)
Again, she wouldn't mention it to anyone. River isn't secretive like Trowa, but her communication skills are... eccentric, and she doesn't feel the need to mention stuff like this. She tends to kind of forget what other people should or shouldn't be expected to know. She might mention it to John, perhaps, but not to random folk. But again, there's a whole lot of woods, and it's entirely possible that she never wanders that way or is having a hallucinatory distracted day when she does. It's up to you!
